    with obama in charge, it is hard for me to see a huge movement of private capital into charity. many of those who would otherwise donate have become victims of 'forced charity'. However, there are groups of people continuing there philanthropic endeavors, such as those at http://www.affluence.org

    Americans give to charity at a rate many multiples of Europeans, as governments have crowded out individual giving. The UK is trying to start up charitable giving citing the US as a model, but its difficult to convince a nation of people used to government doing things for them that charity is voluntary giving, not coercive takings.
